Director and Principal Geotechnical Engineer
In the 16 years since Richard started his mining career as a degree qualified geotechnical engineer he has progressed rapidly. A number of positions that he has held are; Underground Production Geologist, Technical Services Manager, Operations Manager for a multi-mine, 381 person, 33 million BCM overburden & 4.2 million product tonnes per year operation; and more recently he has returned to Queensland in a consulting role. Richard has also gained relevant production experience, working as Technical Services Superintendant and Longwall Superintendant at an underground coal operation, where he was tasked with assisting in the successful delivery and transition from a small underground operation to a longwall mine.
During this time he managed to gain extensive experience in the field of operational mine management, industrial relations, production management, technical services management, mining engineering, exploration and resource proving. In addition to this Richard has invaluable geotechnical engineering and consulting geotechnical engineering experience, gained from some of Australia’s and New Zealand’s most challenging UG and OC operations.
Richard is registered with CPEng, REPQ and is a member of AusIMM. He has the necessary background and experience in coal resource exploration, resource modelling and coal mine planning to be classed as a competent person for JORC compliant resource and reserve statements.
Senior Geotechnical Engineer & Manager – Technical Services
Andrew studied a Bachelor of Civil Engineering at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) and graduated in 2010. After graduation, Andrew commenced the Rio Tinto graduate program with Kestrel Mine in Central Queensland as Geotechnical Engineer. During his employment at Kestrel, Andrew completed a Masters of Engineering in Advanced Structural Design in 2014 through USQ.
In 2015, Andrew was employed by Blackrock Mining Solutions Pty Ltd as a Geotechnical Engineer and has subsequently worked at a number of mine sites throughout the Bowen Basin. Andrew is a skilled and passionate geotechnical engineer with experience in geotechnical design, geotechnical project management and engineering geology. Andrew is a CP member of the AusIMM and is RPEQ.

Amelia joined Blackrock Mining Solutions in January 2014 with over 3 year industry experience. She holds a BSc degree in Geology from the University of Canterbury, NZ.
Amelia has significant experience as an UG mine geologist and senior exploration geologist at numerous underground coal mines throughout the Bowen Basin. Amelia has managed exploration programmes from tender and service provider selection, through to programme completion and rehabilitation stages.
In this capacity Amelia has gained experience in drill-rig coordination, UG borehole scanner analysis, longwall and development mapping as well as project planning. She has developed invaluable skills in these varying roles in both underground and surface operations.
